Oyster Marine

1989 to Present

Originally named ALVINE IX by her first owner, the renowned Harry Evans of Poole, she was launched on Wednesday 19th April 1989 by Oyster Marine at Fox's Marina, Ipswich. He had specified her to the highest standard in order to continue his successful line of racing yachts named after his sons, and he was not disappointed as she won many times, including a Class 2 win in the "Round the Island Race" in 1995. In 2001 ALVINE IX was sold when Harry moved on to a Swan 44.

A number of owners then took the wheel and she finally spent a couple of years on the hard until 2007.

Then, Simon Tucker inherited her in August 2007 and renamed her "Blue Pearl". This was a combination of the facts that she has a blue hull and is an Oyster, and to appease Simon's son who wanted to name her "The Black Pearl". Having further upgraded some of her equipment and adding pumped hot and cold water, Simon raced her in the Autumn Solent Double-handed event and won the RSYC class by quite some margin with Bruce Godfrey. This was only the second time they had sailed her. Lack of time in the UK has meant that Simon has not been able to campaign Blue Pearl to any extent, although the few times they have been out have been a great deal of fun.

Finally, Nicci bought her in February 2009 ! Not having sailed much for quite some time it’s been a pleasure getting to know her and getting used to sailing on a yacht designed for going “a little faster”. Currently it’s Nicci’s intension to sail her back to the Bristol Channel from Hamble during the months of April and May 2009. It’s then intended to take part in a few races / fun events in the Channel before heading off on some longer passages …….. Ireland, France etc. We’ll keep you posted !
